JAMES “JIMMY” COURTENAY

Founding Attorney

James “Jimmy” Courtenay is a founding partner of JJC Law LLC, where he specializes in transportation litigation (18 wheeler, auto, rideshare), maritime, general personal injury and insurance litigation. Jimmy spent his first 7+ years of practice defending insurance companies, trucking companies and corporations in personal injury litigation while also handling insurance coverage issues and disputes. His following 5+ years of practice have been on the side of those injured through no fault of their own while continuing to handle insurance coverage issues and property damage matters for clients. Jimmy’s father and brother are both heavily involved in the maritime industry in south Louisiana, which has naturally led Jimmy to handling issues arising on the water. Jimmy has successfully handled cases through trial and appeal, argued countless motions before both State and Federal Judges, and is often retained by other attorneys to assist them in litigation matters.

Jimmy was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and grew up playing sports at Lakeview Playground. He attended St. Pius X, Christian Brothers School, and Jesuit High School. He then attended the University of Mississippi and played football for Ole Miss during the 1999 season. Following spring practice, he advised then head coach David Cutcliffe that he would be transferring to Louisiana State University to continue playing football. At LSU, he joined the incoming freshman class for “freshman” two-a-days to start his tenure at LSU. He played center and guard for LSU through the 2003 National Championship season under head coach Nick Saban.

After football, Jimmy completed his Masters Degree in Public Administration then attended law school at Southern University Law Center where he held several leadership positions in two of the largest student organizations within the Law Center.

Since 2016, Jimmy has coached on and off with the Louisiana Fire Soccer Club, been a staple on the cabbage ball fields at Lakeview Playground each summer, coaches volleyball and basketball at Lakeshore Playground and St. Pius X School, and tends to dabble in other sports if asked. Jimmy recently finished five years of service as President of the Advisory School Board at St. Pius X School and about four years as Treasurer of the Louisiana Hibernian Charity. Jimmy remains on the board of the charity as a director.
